2017 Goals

Last year I found that taking the time to settle my mind and come up with goals for the year was a really good process for me.  So I am joining Yvonne of Quilting Jet Girl once again in linking up goals for 2017.

This year I've decided to have the over arching goal of Having More Fun!  The last year has brought me quite a bit more work to do with my extended family and my Quilt Guild. It's not that these things aren't enjoyable but they do take up a lot of time and I want to make sure that I'm using my personal/quilting/blogging time in ways that bring me joy rather than stress.

    Quilting Goals

There were three projects I really loved working on this year.  One was Charlotte's quilt ( my own block design).  One was playing around with colours and 1/2 square triangles and the other was working on an improv piece.  So in 2017 I plan to

1.  Continue to work on more of my own block and quilt designs.
2. Play more with colour and with intuitive processes such as improv.
       I also plan to
3.  Work more on my free motion quilting as that has become more enjoyable for me as my skills improve.
4.  Work on buying a bit less and using more of what I have on hand.

Blogging Goals

Although Instagram provides pretty quick response to posts I still prefer the deeper connections and discussions that come with blogging so with that in mind I will

1.  Continue to connect with other bloggers who I have come to value as friends.
2.  Continue to work on blog improvements and yet to be determined challenges.
3.  Continue to work towards posting twice a week

Personal Goals

I have a hard time meeting personal goals, but I met one of my personal goals from 2016 and I'm really excited to share this with you.  My goal was to get more exercise and to meet this goal I joined a gym.  Now I am not a join the gym type of person I'm more of a sit around in your pajamas reading novels kind of person.  So for me this is really big.  I chose the gym my two quilting buddies go to.  I go to aquafit twice a week and I work out at the gym once a week. Recently I added another small workout at home.  I've been going to the gym since September so I know I'm going to keep it up. For other personal goals I'm going to.

1.  Keep working on meditating more.
2.  Work with my Naturopath to get my blood pressure down a bit.  It's always been on the high end of normal and I'd be happier to see it a bit lower.
3.  Figure out a way to see my grandson a bit more.  Now that's fun!

I like the balance of your sewing and health goals, busy and relaxing. And how about yet to be determined? Good for you, save room to dream! I think I like that the best. Your list is a lot like mine, though I hadn't specifically written to connect more with bloggers. It has been good for me, and I will add that to my real goals instead of my "in the head" goals.

What wonderful, and totally doable goals. I can see where sitting down and really thinking about what you want to accomplish is quite helpful. I have really dropped off of the blogging wagon, even though I actually written some blogs I haven't published them. I do love my blogging friends, such as you, but I've really lost that mojo. I guess I need to sit down and decide if I really want to continue it, and if the answer is yes, then I need to set aside time to do it. Period. But I'll be here for your blog, for sure! Here's to a fun and productive 2017!

Hello Lisa,
while we are at stocktaking and planning... let me THANK you first of all for you having been so very supportive in your comments throughout the entire year. I appreciated that a lot. I think it is an excellent idea for you to aim to have more fun sewing wise. Congratulations for having stuck with the excercise - I surely find it hard myself and good for you that you found sporty quilting friends to back you up. I am also very much looking forward to get to see some of your own designs sewn up. =)

What a great focus for 2017, Lisa! I can see it reflected in all your goals for the year. I especially like your goal to see your grandson more, how can that be anything but fun? It will be wonderful to watch you work toward these goals next year, and thank you so much for linking up.

Good on you with your goal setting - it sounds like you really own these goals which means you have a great chance of meeting them! Goal setting and then blogging about it really does make you accountable doesn't it? I'm wondering whether to jump in or not..!

I think having more fun is a great overall goal!! It's been wonderful watching as your free motion confidence has built over the past year. You have accomplished so much in 2016 and I can't wait to see what 2017 brings for you. And huge kudos for your personal goal of joining the gym and becoming healthier. I know this is an area I struggle with, so I shall follow your example :)

I am laughing because one of my goals matches yours perfectly! Buy less, make more! http://quiltlovefordomesticfelicity.blogspot.com/ Thank you for sharing your personal goals as well!

Now that you've said it I am adding 'Have more fun' to my list too. I like your goals - they feel interesting but manageable and I appreciate you sharing your non-quilting goals too. Good luck for 2017!

it sounds like you have cut through your problem and come to the heart of the issue ... you want to do your own thing ... i have found in my life that i don't do people management anymore ... i can belong to the guild but i don't become involved in running or managing guild ... i only have so much time and i want to spend it doing my quilting ... yes that means having fun and decreasing stress

These are all great goals and way to go on the gym accomplishment! That one is so hard for so many of us, including me. It's just so hard to get motivated, especially when that time could be spent quilting or reading, but it's so important to stay healthy. Good luck for 2017!
