Rainbow Rose Update

My goal for July was to finish my Rainbow Rose quilt top.  I am sad to say that I will not accomplish this goal by the end of the month as Dwight and I are going away for the weekend.   I probably wouldn't be able to get all that quilting done on time anyway.  But no worries I'll just push this goal into August and hope to get around to quilting it then.

 cat approaches quilt.

As you can see, I did manage to get the borders on the quilt.

Cat rolls on quilt. Notice how dirty he is.

It was always my intention to make this quilt as a comfort quilt for the outreach program of my local Guild.  The optimum size for comfort quilts for our purposes is 50" by 60".  The baby size was to small and the lap size was too big (this is starting to sound a lot like Goldilocks and the three bears) so I opted to extend the quilt with  offset borders.

I'm happy with how they turned out and now that Jane the Janome is back at home I'll be happy to quilt my quilt.  I know I could have used the other machine but I'm spoiled.
I'm not sure if there is still time to link up my finished top to the Rainbow Rose linkup at Modern Quilters Ireland but I'm going to give it a go.  I'm also linking up to the OMG linkup for August at Red Letter Quilts.  I haven't reached my goals for two months now so I'm hoping that it's three times lucky.

Quilts are definitely cat magnets. :) I really like how you offset your block in all the negative space, and I will look forward to seeing how you finish it. Enjoy your weekend away!

Lisa I absolutely LOVE what you did with your block! If you have Christina Cameli's book, check out her many wavy line motifs if you want something fast and interesting for all that delicious negative space! Happy long weekend!

I love the asymmetric setting, adds so much charm! And it balances nicely with the geometric star. Great job!

This looks great and I also love the offset borders. What is it about animals and quilts? As soon as one of my quilts hit the floor, my dog is onto it!

i love what you did. It's great and hey so you didn't finish it - you'll enjoy your weekend with your hubby and then come back and do it! My cats, too love to get on my quilts - it's pretty irritating most of the time because then there is hair all over it. But sometimes i think its' cute.

You found a great solution to the size issue, Lisa. This is going to be a great comfort to someone; who wouldn't feel better looking at such a stunning quilt?

I love that this quilt is cat approved. That's always important in my book. Offsetting the rose is such a great idea. I really like this layout and it opens up a world of possibilities for quilting in the negative space.

That's a neat solution to your Goldilocks problem)) It now looks very different to all the others in the link-up, I'm really looking forward to see how you quilt it, but please don't stress too much over not meeting your quilting goals, there are more important things in life)))

Don't feel bad. I didn't get the Pulse quilt finished this weekend either. Always so many distractions. Hope you had a great weekend away, though. I love how you off-centered the star, it looks great.

I really like your off center setting. Even though you didn't reach your goal, you still made a lot of progress and that's what really counts. Good luck with your August goal.
