Update
I'm having a lazy day at home today ( I have a head cold) and I thought I would share some progress. These are the blocks I made for my Modern Guild's block lotto. This is a scrappy plus block that is making it's way around instagram, thanks to a tutorial by @stephkucera. For our block lotto we were to make our pluses out of black with white fabric, with scrappy backgrounds in warm colours, reds, oranges, yellows. I managed to make my blocks entirely from scraps. I love the fabrics in the gold block. It seems to be one of my favourite colours at the moment.
I decided to join the Quilter's Planner quilt along this year. My nephew is getting married and I'm thinking this sampler quilt designed by Cheryl Brickey of Meadowmist Designs will make a great wedding gift. Here's my completed January block.
I'm using Kona Silver as the background fabric with feature fabrics from Lib's Elliots Tattooed line, with the odd other fabric thrown in. That's a Katarina Rocella fabric in the middle of the square there. Some of the blocks have frames around them and I have yet to decide on the fabric for the frames.
I ordered some Kona periwinkle to use for the frames and although I love the colour and it works, I'm not sure I want to use it. So now I'm waiting for some Kona Regal to arrive to see if I like that better.
I was at my public library recently and this book pretty much jumped off the shelf and into my arms. I have a hard time keeping up with the clutter so I thought I'd give it a read. One of my goals for this year is to come up with some better cooking, cleaning and eating strategies.
The book was some what reassuring because she wrote it for people whose housekeeping is in worse shape than mine. So I could pat myself on the back because Dwight and I manage to get our dishes done everyday and I manage to get my laundry done and keep the bathroom clean. However there are always piles of stuff around in my house and like the author I have to run around having a cleaning marathon when people are coming over.
I've picked up a couple of ideas from her book and some good insights into why past strategies I've used haven't worked. Although we do the dishes on a daily basis, we leave them in the rack and don't put them away. So I decided to put the dishes away each morning. This also resulted in me cleaning up the cupboard under the sink so that I could put the dish drainer there. The funny thing here is that Dwight has started to put the dishes away each morning, so I've trained him into the habit and not me. This is an unexpected bonus!
I hope you are all staying healthy and getting at least some sewing done.

Your blocks look great and I agree that gold is a color that is really attractive at the moment. I hope that the choice is clear between the Periwinkle and Regal when it arrives. That sounds like a really interesting book. I might have to add that to my check out list!
Also, I hope you feel better soon!
Love those modern plus blocks! I'm sorry you've got a cold, but glad it isn't this nasty flu. Good for you for getting Dwight trained :)
Wow, the black with yellows and golds are fantastic! And so is you block from the QP. Thanks for the recommendation on the book and get better soon!
Hope you are better soon, Lisa! I like the black and gold combination, I can see why you are enjoying working with that gold lately. So bright and happy! I have happy(?) stacks around my house too, but I do try to get the dishes done at night and do the basic cleaning. I'd rather quilt, any day.
Love the scrappy plus blocks! I may have to go shopping for some gold fabrics.
I love your Quilter's Planner block! I love the Periwinkle but I think Regal would be a good option too. Look forward to seeing where you land. Feel better soon!
Your black and yellow plus blocks are very striking, lovely fabrics. Sorry to hear you have a nasty cold, the best thing is to have a lovely day doing whatever makes you happiest, sewing gets my vote. Hope you are feeling better soon.
I really like your QP block. I think that feature fabric line with the silver will make a beautiful wedding quilt. Good luck deciding on a coordinating border fabric that you like. Both colors would work well.
Your sampler block looks great, the silver will be a perfect compliment to the fun rainbow of colors in the blocks.
Those lotto blocks are amazing. Well done. I think I need to read that book as well. Or hire a housekeeper. LOL
I pick Regal for your project. It's a very very nice slightly purple blue. The guild lotto block looks awesome. My block lotto co-ordinator picks fairly traditional blocks which is just so frustrating. Ugh.
