July Goal Finished

What a  couple of months it has been.  It's been filled with the joys and exhaustion of spending lots and lots of time with my grandsons.  I won't go into details but it has taken pretty much the two months since the birth of the baby for my daughter in law to return to health and during those two months she was back in the hospital 6 times.  It is wonderful to see her back to health and energy and no one is happier than her two boys.  Here's hoping that things stay that way.

Additionally my aunt has had a set back and is now back in the hospital. It never rains, it pours. Over the last month or so I had been trying to get her to go on the waiting list for long term care and now we will have to speed up the process.  It's pretty complicated however and depending on how her recovery goes she may end up in the first available bed.

Despite the busyness I managed to complete my July Goal of quilting one of the three quilts I blogged about here.
I chose the green and orange quilt that is the second quilt top I made.  It feels good to have this gem from the past quilted up. I even managed to bind it.

It was a bit dreary out on the day I managed to squeeze in a photo shoot but you can see that it's a pretty bright quilt.  It's hanging on the back of our newer couch at the moment.  I'm hoping it can protect the couch from cat claws.

I took a suggestion from Christina Camelli and looked for a detail in the quilt to choose how I would quilt it.  I took my cue from the fish fabric I used for the backing, which also features on the front of the quilt.

I quilted ribbons with my walking foot and filled in some of the spaces created with free motion circles.  The idea I was going for was underwater plants.  Here's a closeup or two.

The walking foot quilting went very slowly but the free motion accents just zipped along and I had a lot of fun with them. This quilt is my first finish for the 3rd quarter of the 2017 Finish Along.  My original post is here.  I'm happily linking my post up with the OMG July Finish Linkup, with the Main Crush Monday Linkup and withTGIFF which will be at Katy's Quilts and More this week.  I'm also linking up with the 3rd Quarter Finish Along Link up at She Can Quilt.

I love the brightness of the quilt and your idea for the quilting is very clever! So sorry to hear about all the troubles your daughter and aunt are having. It's good to hear your daughter is doing better, and I hope the situation with your aunt gets settled well soon!

you've had a rough time recently. I am really hoping things are back on an even keel for your daughter in law, and it all works out for your aunt. Besides all these goings on, I am amazed you have had time to quilt. Your quilt is lovely, I do love the backing

Hi Lisa,
I hope things go well with your Aunt. {{Hugs}} I understand how stressful that can be. You finished up a beautiful quilt. I just love all the bright colors. It has to make you smile when you look at it! What a great idea on the quilting. I mostly quilt with my walking foot but never would have thought to add the circles in between the wider stripes. It look great! ~smile~ Roseanne

I'm sorry life has been challenging recently. Your quilt is a lovely cheerful finish. I like the idea of taking a cue from the fabrics to help choose a quilting motif. I'll have to remember that.

What a great idea to quilt underwater plants/seaweed on this fun, bright quilt! I'm glad to hear your family is on the mend, too.

Taking a cue from the backing and accent fish fabric was perfect inspiration. I really like the detail of pebbles or bubbles as well. I am so glad your DIL is back to full health; that sounds like it was difficult for everyone. And warm thoughts and love to you and your aunt as you continue to navigate the right choices ahead.

I am impressed Lisa!! How did you manage to squeeze in sewing time? You have been pulled in all sorts of directions. But it sounds like your grand babies and their parents will settle in now. I hope you find just the solution you need for your aunt. Hang in there Lisa. :-)

It is indeed a bright and lovely quilt. The two pictures look so different. They are indeed the same quilt. I have been staring at them for 10 minutes now. Congratulations on the finish - or is it two finishes :-)
Sending warm wishes for your DIL and love to the grandbabies.

This quilt just sings for joy: such beautiful colours. I like your quilting motif and must try to remember how you used both walking foot and FMQ.

Aw, sweet. Both baby and quilt block! And your idea for quilting aquatic plants on the other quilt looks like so much fun. I hope that after your stressful time, things will continue to improve for you and your family. I hope that your daughter's recovery continues and that your aunt will be able to make whatever decisions she needs to for her health and safety without regrets. I know that's not easy. Oh, one more thing: I've been enjoying your fabric stacks over on Instagram. Lots of creative ideas!

Beautiful Boy, and what lovely sandals too. It's nice to see what footwear is available in other parts of the world, my favourite ever sandals came from France. The whale fabric is lovely, Im looking forward to seeing your finished top end of the month. I'm happy to hear your aunt is doing better.
