More Projects on the plate

Sometimes I feel like I need another life.  Not that there is anything wrong with the current life but it would be nice to have an additional one to fit in all the things I want to do and need to do.  I'm now sharing the community outreach chair at my local guild with Cheryl and that's added a bit to the load...extra meetings and reports and some tasks, and I'm planning on joining the gym that my friends Cindy and Wendy go to.  I'm hoping that the time that takes will add to my energy level so there will be a net gain.  We'll see.

It probably doesn't help that I keep adding things to my quilting plate either.  I may be crazy but I've decided to join Lorna in the Modern Bear Paw Quilt Along.  I really love the bear in Lorna's quilt and seeing that I live in the land of bears (not really they are quite a bit to the north )I thought I should pay them homage.  To be honest I'm pretty scared of bears, but not the quilt....although  I'm sure I'll be trailing along behind the others in this quilt along.

I don't normally choose brown as a colour in my quilts but I just have to make this bear in brown.  I've got all solids and to spread out my fabric love they are all from different companies. Having just finished the Blog Hop with the lovely Cirrus Solids, I went with a medium brown from the collection.  The dark brown is a Free Spirit fabric and the background is Kona Ivory.  Being me, I had to pop some colour in there for the sashing, so I went with this soft green I had in my stash.  It's the only green I had enough of.

I'm planning to open up the quilt a bit, giving it more negative space and less bear paws.  I'm going to be winging it  figuring it out as I go along so we'll see how it turns out.  This quilt may go to someone in my sisters family, they are the northern camping types, or I may just keep it for my living room.  The colours would be perfect there.

Speaking of my living room I'll also be making Lorna's Cat Treat Quilt.  She's coming to  lead a workshop at my local guild on October 29th. The Cat  Treat Quilt was the choice I made to work on.  I'll be picking up a green for the background fabric and I'm sure I have some white in the stash for the fish bones.  Here are my fabrics for the cats.

They are all Kafe Facet prints.   I'm mostly going to go with darker cats but I have to have one light cat using the fabric at the front for Benni.

And speaking of Benni, he's currently wearing the cone of shame.  He got into a scrap with a neighbouring cat and has a gouge in his beautiful face.  He was on antibiotics but he kept pawing at his wound so it's been taking a long time to  heal.

He's looking miserable because we are making him stay inside while he heals...poor cat.  Anyhow I'm going to join the two linky parties that Lorna is holding this week, The Mod Bear Paw linkup and Lets Bee Social, although I'm not starting work on either of these two quilts until I get caught up with the Meadow Mystery.

Seeing as I'm just getting started on Lorna's quilt along, you can too, maybe make a pillow or a placemat or something more ambitious like a whole quilt.  The more the merrier, I say.

You joined!!! I hoped that you would! I solemnly swear I will probably not keep up either, so we can be behind together. You have to take a lot of pictures of your class with Lorna. I love that pattern, and purchased it back in May. Man, I wish I could take it with you guys. Poor Benni and the cone of shame. I guess you do the crime, you pay the time :(

Those fabrics are going to make a great bear quilt and what fun, having Lorna come to your guild next month. Now, as for poor Benni... the cone of shame is something dreaded by all. He's such a sweetie though. I hope he heals soon.

You have chosen some lovely fabrics for your new projects. I hope you manage to keep your head above water with all this work; I know how it feels to have several "urgent" projects going!

Joining a gym sounds painful, but joining a gym with friends sounds more like fun. I hope you find that it helps to lift your energy level. Good luck with your progress on the Meadow Mystery quilt. Looking forward to seeing you at the workshop!

I want to make the bear paw quilt too. I have a quilt to make for a family member, and am hoping to this one for him, but he is deciding what he wants. I might have to decide for him if he waits too long!

The bear in Lorna's quilt is so clever, I love how he's poking through the sashing. I can definitely see the appeal of starting the project! And how awesome that Lorna will be visiting your guild. I hope the gym goes well, it's a big part of my daily routine, too.

It's always good to spread the fabric love! I like the idea of adding some negative space into the Bear Paw quilt, I think that would be a good take on it! Working at a vet clinic, I'm no stranger to the cone of shame. Lol. Nobody likes them, but they do help out with healing. Plus, they're good for a laugh when animals act silly in them. :) Hope your little guy heals up quickly!

I'm out of breath and only went back to read your September posts! A-m-a-z-i-n-g variety, fabrics, projects! Great going!

I already started the quilt although I haven't officially joined up as yet. You are so lucky to be doing a workshop with Lorna, and I love your fabrics. Poor Benni, he looks so sorry for himself, hope he is healed enough to remove the cone soon.

I also joined a bit late and I just finished cutting the pattern pieces. I'm making it as a baby quilt so I'm hoping this bear is a friendly one Ü

How I would love to join you in Lorna's Bear QAL but I cannot; just too many things on the go already! QBL is just too darn enticing isn't it? I will have to check out her kitty quilt; you've pulled some great fabrics there! Poor Benni, boys will be boys...

I'll be interested to see how your spaced out Mod. BP goes - I know I shouldn't be starting something new either but just couldn't help myself!

Your spaces sound interesting. I'll change up the sizes some. I'm not into square quilts.
