My quilting time has been very limited but I did manage to get 1/2 of the weeks assignment for the Rainbow Rose Quilt Along finished.
I might be able to finish the other two corners tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I'm not sure when I will get this weeks assignment done as we are going to Montreal for my niece's wedding this weekend. We leave on Friday and come back on Monday.
In other Rainbow news, I decided to put together a quilt top for the Pulse Nightclub quilt drive organized by the Orlando Modern Guild. I sent an email to a few of my friends in my local quild (basically whoever popped into my mind when I was writing the email. The response has been great!
These are the blocks I have received so far.
I know there are 10 more completed blocks, and there are a couple of people who have yet to make their blocks. That would include me. My plan is to see what I get and fill in the blanks. As you can see there is a large blank in blue blocks. This is a good thing as blue is my favourite colour.
I've had an offer to take the quilt down to Florida, an offer to mail the quilt in the States to get cheaper rates, and offers to piece the quilt top together. My boss who doesn't sew has offered to help pay postage to mail it down.
Like many people who have LGBT family members and friends I was knocked flat by the news of the massacre in Orlando so it's important to me that I piece this quilt. Although I do think I will do that with two of my friends.

Your Rainbow Rose is progressing beautifully. June certainly has been a hugely busy month even for retirees such as ourselves.
Lisa, how generous of you to organise a quilt top for the Pulse Charity Drive. Go you! The Pulse shooting was such a human katastrophe, I cannot even begin to imagine the horroe the victims and their families go through. I am also currently sewing a heart block for the initiative. The rainbow blocks look charming, I like the color values you have chosen.
Just thought I'd point out that I am still working 3 1/2 days a week...would love to be retired , although I have a great job that I love also,...I have a few years left to go before retirement.
I love the look of your Rainbow Rose, you are making great progress on it. I think it's wonderful that so many of your friends jumped in to help with your heart quilt. It's a lovely quilt made my generous people and is filled with love. Thank you for doing that.
It was not hard at all to drop everything when the call came out to make Hearts for the victims and survivors of the tragedy in Orlando. My first quilt top is finished. I made blocks with my guild last saturday, but wanted to complete a top on my own. We have such a gifted, talented and generous quilting community!

It's always amazing to see quilters put their "To-Do" list aside and come together to make something so wonderful for those in need. Each stitch is saturated with love and that comfort carries on to the recipient. Beautiful work!
I am making a heart quilt, too! The blocks are fast and easy. Plus working with the rainbow colors is fun and uplifting. My favorite color is blue, too, so I've tried not to put too many blue blocks in my top. Those are beautiful blocks that your friends have donated. Good luck getting everything together and shipped out!
Your rainbow rose is looking great and so are the hearts for the Orlando quilt. Hope you get some stitching time in next week.
It's always more meaningful when you get to sew something for a good cause. The quilting community is always very generous and far reaching... so touching.

I love how the colors are progressing with your Rainbow Rose quilt. And how awesome you were able to get quilty friends to help with the quilt for Orlando. I'm hoping to start piecing mine together this weekend and that a certain someone in the house will offer to help too.

Your rainbow quilt is really coming along and is going to look great. Thank you so much for helping us with the quilts for Pulse. We've been truly blown away from all the support around the world. It's the good like these acts of kindness that I need to hold onto instead of all the hate and violence.
Love how the color changes from red to blue through purple. I am sure it will turn out fabulous. Those hearts are full of love...

Hey Lisa - I'm doing the Rainbow Rose quilt a long, too. I like mine, but I don't love it. I misunderstood and made so many squares I may have to do another. It was fun, and easy, and I have SO MANY babies to make quilts for right now... I actually put the whole thing together yesterday (I realized after that we weren't supposed to, but oh well.) It's great that you're getting involved with the Hearts for Pulse. I'm so sick of it all. There's no reason to hurt other people. None. I just really don't get it AT ALL. But I do believe strongly that love wins, still. And always. The show at Toronto sounds great. Wish I could have been there.
Lovely lovely quilt Lisa! I'm with you on the blues being my favourite so I'd be happy too--it's the most plentiful in my stash. Doesn't it warm your saddened heart when you get so many offers to help in more ways than just the piecing part? That helps me deal with the disbelief and horror and sadness. Wish I could have made it up there to the show; glad you had such a great time. Also wish I was in Montreal this weekend!! Miss that beautiful old city, and on La Fête Nationale aka Saint-Jean-Baptiste! Bet you're having a blast there too!
