Crushing on Cleaning Up

I've taken some breaks from sewing this last week to work on my current main crush which has been tidying my sewing space.  It all started with  me reading a post on Shasta's blog, High Road Quilter where she talked about cleaning her closet.  I must have caught a virus from her because the next thing I knew I was cleaning my closet.

Sorry, there is no before photo but trust me when I say that I could not close the door before and now I can.

What did I get rid of?  Well only about a gazillion old quilt sandwhiches which I had used for practising free motion quilting, some magazines, some patterns and a skirt that I hadn't quite finished, which will no longer fit.   But bonus, I found a piece of batting I'd lost track of that will work for a lap sized quilt. Yay!

From there I moved on to the cabinet that houses the stash.  I sorted , consolidated, moved things around and removed things from the stash which I'm sure I'll never use.    Here's what she looks like now.

     Here's a close up.

The work's not over yet. There's the corner in the other side of the room.  It's next on the cleaning list.  But I think it will have to wait for a while so I can get some quilting done.

I'm linking up to Main Crush Monday over at Cooking Up Quilts.  What have you been up to.

You almost make me want to clean my sewing room too. Aaaallllmost! lol. Love the cabinet. It's a beautiful piece of furniture and full of fabric like that, it's even better looking. ;^)

Cleaning is not a bad thing to be crushing on :) I need to do a bit of it myself. I'm always amazed at what I find that I have forgot about. Plus, it always feels good to start with a nice clean work area.

I love the glass doors on the cabinet where you can see all your fabric, but remain dust free. I probably should part with all my old quilt sandwiches, but I like to see my progress from when I first started FMQ. Looking all tidy!

Great job on cleaning up! I did a minor cleaning at the beginning of the year and it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. It was nice to go through things too and take stock.

Wow that looks great. That was great practice - now that you are warmed up, you can come to my house and do mine!

Oh stop it Lisa! I have a plan to tidy up my sewing room, however, right now the rest of my house is the thing that really really needs cleaning...but I don't WAAAAANA do it. However, your pictures of neat orderliness are quite inspiring, so maybe I will do it anyway...

Great cleaning up! My sewing room was clean over the new year but somehow it's already messy again :)

mmm yummy things in your stash. Funny how it is that other people's stash are so appealing!

It's so fun to see other people's stash. You have so many wonderful turquoise fabrics... I have about 5 pieces. I need to follow your lead and do a little stash manicuring. But, really, I'd rather sew!

Sometimes nothing beats a good clear out! Like others I love your stash cupboard.

I love seeing how people organize their fabric and sewing supplies. I like that your cupboard has glass doors. I use an open book shelf, which works but doesn't protect fabric from dust. (I love your red/orange/coral window trim!)

Love the idea about re-purposing that glass cabinet for all those linens. I also got a few ideas after looking at the way that you filled up the closet. The one thing I find is the more shelves, the better. I have a hallway closet that has so much wasted space in it that I can now transform with your ideas. Now on to cleaning it up!
