The Rainbow Rose Is Finished.

Well it's Friday and I've got a finish!  Here's my Rainbow Rose.  The photo below isn't the most inspiring photo but it's raining out so I took the photo on the back porch.  We only got slightly wet.

If you followed the Rainbow Rose Quilt along  with Modern Quilters Ireland you will know that the instructions were for a square quilt with the Rose in the Centre.  I chose to float the Rose in some negative space.  The quilt finishes at 48" by 60" I'm donating it to my guilds comfort quilt program.

I had a lot of fun quilting this quilt.  When I first started quilting my own quilts I never thought I would say this.  At the beginning I found quilting to be such a chore, but the quilting sages are right...It does get easier the more you do it.  It also helps to give up on perfectionism and trust that each time you quilt a quilt it will get better.  Is this what folks mean when they say they took the process pledge?

I used the quilt to practise both quilting with a walking foot in the star itself and free motion quilting.  I did an all over wonky triangle motif in the negative space which mirrored the triangles in my background fabric.  Here's a closeup on the back of the quilt.

It's the first time I've done an all over design on a quilt.  Here's a closeup of the walking foot and dot to dot motifs.

I purchased the fabric on the back years ago thinking I would use it to make a top.  It seems that many of my quilt backings were bought as potential clothing options which just goes to show that I quilt more than I make garments.

I have to fly out the door soon as we are going to visit my sister this weekend but I'm linking up to TGIFF which is held this week at Crazy Dutch Bird Quilts.  Hi Iris!  This is my second finish for quarter three of the Finish Along and it's my One Monthly Goal for September.

I love what you have done with the offset and the negative space. It really gives the star a unique personality. Great job!

Lovely finish, Lisa. It's such a beautiful pattern and your asymmetrical layout really makes this one different. Someone is going to be happy to receive such a beautiful gift.

Wonderful quilting Lisa. I'm extremely impressed! I'm not very brave when it comes to fmq but hopefully I'll feel ready to jump in feet first one day soon!

This is beautiful - I just love the off-center layout you went with. Gives it a great modern look. And it really is lovely to read that quilting is become more fun for you. I felt the same way you did in the beginning and so piled up a whole bunch of quilt tops which never got finished. When I decided I needed to get over my fear of quilting, and started practicing more and more, it really became fun. Today, I just love quilting my own quilt. :-)

Congratulations, Lisa! I liked your background fabric from the beginning and it's great how you complimented it with the quilting, glad to hear that you enjoyed the process as well as the result ))). The rose is just shining (I can't help thinking of it as a star).

Congratulations - this is a lovely finish. I especially like the asymmetric setting and the way the star floats in all that negative space.

Congrats on a beautiful finish! It's funny - I started free motion quilting back in 2013 and earlier this year was the first time that I did an allover motif as well. I always want to try custom designs in specific areas of a quilt. I took an all-day class with Christa Watson yesterday and was practicing some good all-over motifs, one of which is the triangle. I think I'm going to use that on a charity quilt later this week.

Congrats! I knew you would get it finished this month, I had faith. Your quilting looks great. Quilting definitely gets easier with each project you do. Now I can't wait to see what you quilt next.

I love the way this star just floats in the quilt. And I love your quilting. As you know I kind of still find the quilting a chore. I used to be able to fmq on my old janome but have yet to master it on my new pfaff. Practice as you say.
